2. My Learning strategies

Firstly, I read the materials while the presenters are presenting the materials. I mark out the important point so it makes me easier to re-read it. Then I made a mark to the ones that I still confuse and make it a question for the group who are presenting.

3. Synopsis

·         Meeting 1: Journalism is the process of gathering, editing, and disseminating news, along with related commentary and feature materials, through print and electronic media like newspapers, magazines, books, blogs, webcasts, podcasts, social networking and social media sites, as well as radio, movies, and television.

·         Meeting 2: Every statement can contain personal opinion by using the verb system of the target language in a specific way.

·         Meeting 3: Simple statements are used in news paragraphs to deliver information fast. Generally, paragraphs are 1 or 2 two sentences long, though they can occasionally be as lengthy as three. The 5 W and H (Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How) questions should be addressed by the story in a logical order, starting with the material that the reading audience will find most significant or intriguing.

·         Meeting 4: A technique used in news reporting is news gathering and interviewing. Journalists conduct interviews with the relevant sources to gather the data required for news reporting.

·         Meeting 5: Research into the past before creating interview questions, it's typical to need to do some background research, either on the subject being covered or the person being interviewed.

·         Meeting 6: A highlight is a piece of writing about an item or an event that informs, enlightens, entertains, persuades, and stirs readers' emotions. A feature has similarities to and differences from a news item in various ways. A feature is fact-based, much like a news piece.

·         Meeting 7: The goal of feature writing is to try and emotionally engage the audience. It fulfills the dual purposes of entertaining and enlightening the readers. However, they lack the objectivity of traditional reporting. A personality profile is prepared to introduce readers to a person who is either in the news or not.

·         Meeting 9: An illustrator who creates editorial cartoons with some element of political or social criticism is referred to be an editorial cartoonist or a political cartoonist. Their cartoons are used to convey and discuss a topic in national or international current affairs or daily news.

·         Meeting 10: When writing a review of artwork, there are a number of techniques to take into account. Your readers may receive favorable comments. Make sure to employ effective writing strategies to pique readers' attention in your review.

·         Meeting 11: A news photographer's profession involves a lot of writing photo captions. For individuals who want to master the fundamentals of creating photo captions, we anticipate a variety of conveniences. The meanings of photo captions can be very broad.

·         Meeting 12: Since advertising is what pays the bills, it plays a crucial role in periodicals. Additionally, advertising serves to stimulate the economy by informing the public about products, services, and other goods and services. The revenue from the advertising covers the costs of publishing the newspaper as well as the staff's salary.

·         Meeting 13: If an advertisement can elicit the desired response from the target audience, influence people, have an impact, and provide quantifiable outcomes, then it is said to be effective. The efficacy of advertising must concentrate on a number of factors, such as seeing or hearing perceptions, feeling emotions, persuasion of beliefs, acting conduct, related associations, and cognitive thought.

·         Meeting 14: News from the scene is immediately available to viewers and listeners in their homes thanks to broadcast media. Speaking or appearing on radio or television is known as broadcasting (to speak or appear on radio or television). However, broadcasting can also refer to radio and television broadcasts or broadcast media in other dictionaries.

·         Meeting 15: Gathering, recording, verifying, and reporting on material of public interest is the practice of journalism. The most important distinction between journalism and other nonfiction writing genres is the idea of objectivity. When interviewing sources, investigating current events, composing their pieces, and reporting on them, journalists are expected to be objective at all times. They might also create podcasts, photo captions, documentaries, help run round-the-clock TV broadcasts, and keep the news readily available online and on social media. The writing style used by news organizations to compile stories is known as "journalistic writing" in general. Every news organization has a unique "house" style that outlines the grammar and style conventions that must be followed while writing for that publication or website. The five fundamental types of journalism writing are opinion columns, reviews, feature writing, entertainment writing, and investigative writing. They all share a few similar qualities and characteristics.

4. Reflection

After studying Journalism, it makes me have knowledge about Journalism. By studying journalism, it makes me as the person who already or should looking for and curious about what’s happening. No matter what is going on, whether it is a crime, a financial crisis, a fashion fad, or a rock performance, journalists need to learn about it and grasp it. They convey this knowledge to an audience who will care about it through an interesting story.

FINAL TEST

 EID ADHA AND THE TRADITION

Written by

Cindy Angelina Oktavia (1988203022)

The "Feast of Sacrifice," also known as Eid al-Adha, Eid ul-Adha, Id-ul-Azha, Id-ul-Zuha, Hari Raya Haji, or Bakr-id, is the most significant holiday in the Muslim calendar. The phrase "Grand Eid" (Al Eid Al Kabeer) may also be used to refer to the celebration. Despite the fact that most nations observe roughly the same number of public holidays for both Eids, this Eid has a higher prominence in terms of religion because it lasts for four days as opposed to Eid Al Fitr's one day. The Muslim world as a whole observes this occasion to remember Prophet Abraham's readiness to give all up for God. The Islamic holiday of Eid al-Adha occurs on the tenth day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the calendar's twelfth and last month. The date may differ between nations because the precise day is determined by moon sightings.

Eid al-Adha marks the end of the Mecca Pilgrimage. Three days long Eid al-Adha honors Abraham's (Abraham's) resolve to submit to God by offering up his son. Jews and Christians are both familiar with the same story that is told in the Bible. Muslims think the son was Ishmael rather than Isaac as described in the Old Testament, which is a significant distinction. Eid Al Lahma, also referred to as "the meat Eid," Ibrahim, according to the Quran, was going to offer his son as a sacrifice when a voice from heaven intervened and permitted him to offer something else as a "great sacrifice." In the Old Testament, a ram is offered in place of the son as the sacrifice. Ishmael is revered in Islam as a prophet and Muhammad's ancestor.

Muslims sacrifice a cow or ram as a representation of Ibrahim's obedience at the Eid Adha holiday. In my village, every morning at eid adha, after pray together at the mosque, people come together near the mosque to watch the process slaughter of cows and goats. “I feel grateful and happy because Allah still give a live for me to feel the pleasant of eid adha. Hopefully in the next year, we all still give a live by Allah to celebrate the eid adha.” Said one of the citizen at my village. About a third of the dinner is consumed by the family, another third is given to friends and family, and the remaining third is donated to Another important Eid Adha custom is donating charity to the needy or homeless in the form of cash, food, or clothing the needy and underprivileged.

Indonesia: Why Would a Country Change its Capital City?

Thursday, July 14 2022

Indonesia is building a new capital city because the current one is sinking,

The nation's parliament has approved a measure that will allow Jakarta to be moved 1,300 kilometers (800 miles) away. The largest island nation in the world, Indonesia is located north of Australia and is made up of 17,000 islands. The huge island of Java's current capital, Jakarta, is swampy and sinking as a result of population growth and pollution. On an Indonesian province on the island of Borneo, which is renowned for its jungles and orangutan population, the new capital will be called "Nusantara."

Why is the capital city sinking?

There are almost 10 million people living in Jakarta. But it's sinking at one of the world's quickest rates. The city is situated on very swampy soil and is on the coast. 13 rivers also pass through it. Jakarta is submerged by the sea in half. Why? Well, a significant amount of groundwater is extracted for usage as drinking water and washing water. This causes the city to bury further into the earth. Researchers predict that significant portions of Jakarta could be completely submerged by 2050, which is less than 30 years away! The city has subsided by 4m (more than 13 ft) in certain spots over the past ten years. Similar in height to two Dwayne "The Rock" Johnsons stacked on top of one another! The city is receding 1 to 15 centimeters annually on average.

What do people thinking about the move?

The development of the new city, according to critics, will result in the growth of palm oil plantations and logging in a region home to a wide variety of species and lush rainforests. The nature and culture of Borneo's indigenous inhabitants could be harmed by the relocation, according to groups that represent them. Because Nusantara is a historical Javanese term used in Indonesia to refer to the entire nation, some people have also expressed concern that the new name would be misunderstood. The president chose the new name of the capital, according to Indonesia's planning minister, because it was globally recognizable and reflected Indonesia's topography. One of the largest projects the Indonesian government has ever undertaken, the relocation is expected to cost 466 trillion rupiah (£23.8 billion).

The Big Plastic Count: Survey Shows 'Recycling doesn't work'

Thursday, July 14 2022

The organizers of Britain's biggest ever survey of household plastic waste have called for immediate action to tackle what they say are "jaw-dropping" findings.

The results of The Big Plastic Count, which was conducted during a week in May, indicate that the typical participating household disposed away 66 pieces of plastic in that time.

According to the organizers, Greenpeace and Everyday Plastic, the UK discards close to 100 billion pieces of plastic annually. Nearly 100,000 homes participated in the survey, carefully recording the kind and quantity of plastic they disposed of over the course of seven days.

According to its organizers, the outcomes show that recycling is insufficient on its own to cut down on the amount of plastic that ends up in waste. Greenpeace UK's Chris Thorne, a plastics campaigner, claimed that the volume of plastic garbage was "astonishing." "Recycling can't sort this, so pretending it can is merely commercial greenwash. Every year, we produce 100 billion pieces of trash plastic, and recycling barely makes a dent in that amount."

What we throw away.

Participants in the study were asked to record the type of plastic they used in addition to counting the number of pieces. The majority of the plastic waste, 83%, came from food and beverage packaging waste, primarily from fruit and vegetable packaging.

The UK retail business is setting the bar for environmental protection by eliminating single-use packaging, regardless of the material type, according to Nadiya Catel-Arutyunova, sustainability policy advisor at the British Retail Consortium.

"Removing branded single-use plastic (SUP) packaging is difficult, but it is possible with partnerships and collaboration with producers. This does not diminish retailers' overarching commitment to making prompt and significant adjustments in order to reduce single-use plastics."

The UK government makes available statistics on the amount of home plastic waste collected, and the most recent data (2021) reveals that more than 2.5 million tonnes of plastic packaging waste were produced, of which 44.2 percent is recycled. In the UK, recycling accounts for 55% of the total; the remainder is exported. The most popular destination is Turkey.

Through our historic Environment Act, we are taking additional action to combat single-use plastics, according to a spokesman for the Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs. They emphasized the steps already taken to limit the availability of plastic cotton buds and straws and stated that plans were being finalized for a deposit return program for plastic bottles.

Not all plastic is as simple to separate and recycle as others. 61 percent of plastic bottles, 36 percent of plastic tubs, and only 8 percent of plastic films, according to data from the plastics organization Recoup.

More than half of the plastics we discard are soft plastics, which are more difficult to recycle, according to the authors of the Big Plastic Count research. The analysis determined that only 12% of our plastic garbage being recycled in the UK after comparing their findings with Recoup's data.

"According to Daniel Webb, the founder of Everyday Plastic, recycling is ineffective and that fact alone allows us to continue operating as usual. We must deal with issues higher up the food chain. We can decrease the quantity of waste we make by reducing the amount we produce." In October 2021, Prime Minister Boris Johnson conveyed a message quite similar to this one when he informed a group of schoolchildren that recycling "doesn't work" and "is not the answer."

The Big Plastic Count: Survey Shows 'Recycling doesn't work'

The Big Plastic Count was undertaken over the course of one week in May, and the results show that the average participating household disposed of 66 pieces of plastic during that period. Greenpeace and Everyday Plastic, the event's organizers, estimate that the UK discards close to 100 billion pieces of plastic each year. In the survey, nearly 100,000 homes took part, carefully documenting the type and amount of plastic they disposed of over the course of seven days. In addition to counting the amount of pieces, study participants were asked to note the kind of plastic they used. Food and beverage packaging trash, largely from fruit and vegetable packaging, accounted for 83% of the plastic waste.

The most recent data (2021) indicates that more than 2.5 million tonnes of plastic packaging waste were created, of which 44.2 percent is recycled. The UK government publishes information on the amount of domestic plastic waste that is collected. 55 percent of the total is recycled in the UK, and the other 35 percent is exported. Turkey is the most well-liked vacation spot.

According to a representative for the Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs, we are taking additional measures to reduce single-use plastics under our historic Environment Act. They underscored the actions already done to restrict the availability of straws and cotton buds made of plastic, and they announced that arrangements for a deposit return program for plastic bottles were being made.

Not every plastic can be separated and recycled as easily as other types. Data from the plastics association Recoup shows that 61 percent of plastic bottles, 36 percent of plastic tubs, and only 8 percent of plastic films are made of plastic.

The authors of the Big Plastic Count study claim that more than half of the plastics we trash are soft plastics, which are more challenging to recycle. The investigation compared their findings with the information from Recoup and found that only 12% of our plastic waste being recycled in the UK.

"Daniel Webb, the founder of Everyday Plastic, claims that the ineffectiveness of recycling enables us to carry on as usual. We need to address problems that are higher on the food chain. By producing less, we can reduce the amount of waste we generate." Prime Minister Boris Johnson told a gathering of youngsters that recycling "doesn't work" and "is not the answer" in October 2021, sending a message that was quite similar to this one.

Well, we arrived at our closed today. That's all the news for this morning. I am Cindy Angelina Oktavia. Thank you for watching, and have a great day. See you on the next occasion.

Laskar Pelangi tells the story of children from Belitung Village who are categorized as poor children in Belitung. These children do not stop trying to improve their future. They are students of SD Muhammadiyah, the oldest elementary school in Belitung village. There are 10 students in this school, so they cannot be separated from the threat of closure. The nine students are Ikal, Lintang, Mahar, A Kiong, Syahdan, Borek, Sahara, Kucai, Trepani, and Harun. Ibu Muslimah, the only teacher at SD Muhammadiyah, played by Cut Mini, and Pak Harfan, the principal at SD Muhammadiyah, played by Ikranagara, continue to strive to keep SD Muhammadiyah from closing. Initially there were only 9 students at SD Muhammadiyah, then Harun came, mentally retarded child who saved the school when all the students and teachers were nervous and worried that the school would be closed. After the students have reached 10 students, the school with the improvised building is still allowed to carry out activities like schools in general. The main character in the film Laskar Pelangi is Ikal. Muhammadiyah Elementary School students who have a great interest in the world of literature. He likes to write poetry. There is also Lintang, a Muhammadiyah elementary school student who is the smartest student in school because of his genius. He is the son of a poor fisherman who dreams of becoming a mathematician. There is one student who is known to have talent in the arts, namely Mahar. He was the one who came up with the idea when the school planned to take part in a carnival-like competition. Mahar gave the idea to dance with accessories made from rare plants in Belitung. The plants made itchy, so they danced like crazy people, but the idea made SD Muhammadiyah win the competition. The days that go by are increasingly carving memories, happiness, and full of laughter. Even so, Lintang still struggles in education. He was willing to travel a very long distance to get to school by bicycle. Lintang's struggle to get to school had to go through a lake with a crocodile in it. Lintang's intelligence was proven when he, Ikal, and Sahara took part in a quiz competition. The three students were able to beat Drs. Zulfikar, an elementary school teacher from the PN which is an elite school in Belitung.

Film making

The Laskar Pelangi film was produced by Miles Films, Mizan Productions, and SinemArt with a location on Belitung Island, one of the beautiful islands on the western side of Indonesia. The making of the film, which is based on the novel Laskar Pelangi, held a casting for the cast of children from Belitung as actors from Muhammadiyah elementary school students. The Laskar Pelangi film uses two languages, namely Indonesian and Malay as the everyday language on Belitung Island. The Muhammadiyah Elementary School building which is the setting in this film is a replica of the Muhammadiyah Elementary School where the writer of the novel Laskar Pelangi, Andrea Hirata, studied.

Very Inspirational Movie

As a film that tells a story about education, Laskar Pelangi does not only present a portrait of education in the village, but also a story of friendship that is very close and rich in meaning. The atmosphere of joy and sadness was felt, when Lintang won the quiz competition, but at the same time he decided to quit school. There are many conflicts that occur in this film. It starts when the school registration period for students who register does not meet the minimum limit set by the Ministry of Education and Culture of South Sumatra. So, if there are less than 10 students who register, the school is forced to close. The day of registration arrived, the number of registered students was only nine people. In the midst of anxiety, finally Mr. Harfan as the principal and Mrs. Muslimah as the teacher, decided to cancel the admission of new students. When he was about to start his speech, a mother came with her son, Harun, to register as a student at SD Muhammadiyah. The day passed and went on with school activities in general. Then it was time for SD Muhammadiyah to join the carnival. Although she was questioned because she did not have the funds, Mrs. Muslimah insisted on involving her students. With Mahar's artistic and genius soul, they managed to get the victory trophy. The conflict that brought the emotions of the audience the most was when the quiz race was over. Where originally SD Muhammadiyah was left behind when it was against SD PN and SD Negeri. When it comes to math, they can catch up with the scores they left behind and win the quiz competition. At that time, I, as a spectator, felt happy for the victory that SD Muhammadiyah had won. After winning the quiz, Lintang decided not to continue his education because his father died and he had to become the breadwinner of the family. Instantly the happiness they just got turned into a very deep sadness. When I watched it, I felt sad when a student as genius as Lintang was forced to drop out of school.

Advantages    : In my opinion Laskar Pelangi is a film that really teaches persistence in achieving goals, simplicity, and friendship. The storyline taken by the producer is not complicated and easy to understand. There are many funny scenes, such as Ikal and A ling falling in love because Ikal likes to buy chalk at the shop owned by A ling's family.

Deficiency      : I don't think there are any drawbacks

1.     The Laskar Pelangi novel has an educational theme.

2.     Characterizations

·       Ikal: students who are students after Latitude.

·       Taprani: polite, neat, respectful to parents.

·       Sahara: skeptical.

·       Akiong: plain.

·       Mahar: has talent in the arts.

·       Bu Muslimah : patient and persistent.

·       Lintang: the most genius student.

·       Kucai: has the mandate as class president.

·       Syahdan: Ikal's friend bought chalk.

·       Harun: polite, quiet, and smiling.

3.     Background scene            : in Hang Village, Hanging District, East Belitong, South Sumatra.

4.     Plot                              : introduction of story situations, conflict, climax, resolution.

5.     Viewpoint                   : first person main actor.

6.     Mandate                      : Optimistic in everything and does not give up easily.
