The "Feast of Sacrifice," also known as Eid
al-Adha, Eid ul-Adha, Id-ul-Azha, Id-ul-Zuha, Hari Raya Haji, or Bakr-id, is
the most significant holiday in the Muslim calendar. The phrase "Grand
Eid" (Al Eid Al Kabeer) may also be used to refer to the celebration.
Despite the fact that most nations observe roughly the same number of public
holidays for both Eids, this Eid has a higher prominence in terms of religion because
it lasts for four days as opposed to Eid Al Fitr's one day. The Muslim world as
a whole observes this occasion to remember Prophet Abraham's readiness to give
all up for God. The Islamic holiday of Eid al-Adha occurs on the tenth day of
Dhu al-Hijjah, the calendar's twelfth and last month. The date may differ
between nations because the precise day is determined by moon sightings.
Eid
al-Adha marks the end of the Mecca Pilgrimage. Three days long Eid al-Adha
honors Abraham's (Abraham's) resolve to submit to God by offering up his son. Jews
and Christians are both familiar with the same story that is told in the Bible.
Muslims think the son was Ishmael rather than Isaac as described in the Old
Testament, which is a significant distinction. Eid Al Lahma, also referred to
as "the meat Eid," Ibrahim, according to the Quran, was going to
offer his son as a sacrifice when a voice from heaven intervened and permitted
him to offer something else as a "great sacrifice." In the Old
Testament, a ram is offered in place of the son as the sacrifice. Ishmael is
revered in Islam as a prophet and Muhammad's ancestor.
Muslims
sacrifice a cow or ram as a representation of Ibrahim's obedience at the Eid
Adha holiday. In my village, every morning at eid adha, after pray together at
the mosque, people come together near the mosque to watch the process slaughter
of cows and goats. “I feel grateful and happy because Allah still give a live
for me to feel the pleasant of eid adha. Hopefully in the next year, we all
still give a live by Allah to celebrate the eid adha.” Said one of the citizen
at my village. About a third of the dinner is consumed by the family, another
third is given to friends and family, and the remaining third is donated to
Another important Eid Adha custom is donating charity to the needy or homeless
in the form of cash, food, or clothing the needy and underprivileged.
